What screams fall more than “maple apple cider hot toddy”? Answer: NOTHING! This cocktail recipe is perfect for those cold, autumn Saturdays.
Tried and true, it’s impossible to screw up this recipe. Too bitey on the whiskey end? Add more apple cider. Needing a little extra kick? Sprinkle in some more allspice. This cocktail recipe is versatile, so make it to your liking!
Lucky for us, we live about 10 minutes down the road from Robinette’s Apple Haus & Winery. The line is about a half mile long, but it is SO worth it! If you don’t have access to a local orchard (or quite frankly, the time), support small businesses by finding a local cider available in your grocery store.
What do you need for an apple cider hot toddy?
Here’s what you’ll need:
- apple cider
- orange juice
- cranberry juice
- apple flavored whiskey
- orange liquor
- maple syrup
- allspice berries
- star anise
- cinnamon
- rosemary sprigs
- apple slices
Tips for the best hot toddy
- Use real maple syrup; not just regular pancake syrup. There’s a difference? Maple syrup is just that; maple tree sap that they’ve boiled down into a syrup, whereas pancake syrup is usually made from corn syrup and artificial flavors added in.
- Expecting company? Instead of making a small batch in a pot, double or triple your recipe and throw it in a crockpot to keep warm for hours. People can come and serve themselves as they need refills without all of the fuss.
